Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports that during the week of Oct. 15-21, officers responded to 74 calls for service and 14 reportable incidents were investigated as follows: •Oct. 15 – Officer Roggenkamp responded to the 1000th block of Upton Avenue in reference to a burglary of a vehicle.

Winter feral hog contest to get under way Nov. 4

The Fayette County winter feral hog contest will begin on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023 and run through Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024; however, since the Fayette County Extension Office is not open on Sunday, feral hog ears will be accepted until noon on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.

Fayette County Court Marriage Licenses Filing Dates: Oct.

Coyote control contest runs Nov. 4 thru Jan. 7

The Fayette County winter coyote control program will begin on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023 and end on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024. The contest is being held to give landowners, producers and sportsmen an opportunity to assist in the control of coyotes in Fayette County.

Early voting is now underway for the Nov. 7 general election. Voters will decide the fate of 14 proposed amendments, including measures to provide property tax relief and raise the homestead exemption to $100,000.

Food handler's course set in Carmine

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office of Fayette County will offer a food handler’s workshop, hosted by JW’s Steakhouse, 122 South Hauptstrasse St., Carmine, on Monday, Nov. 6. The state-accredited two-hour course is scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. at a cost of $20 per person.

Bastrop/Fayette Ag Conference slated

The Bastrop/Fayette CountyAg Conference will be held Friday, Nov. 3 at the Fayette County Fairgrounds, 400 West Fairgrounds Road, La Grange.

Sheriff’s Report

September 2023 Sheriff Keith Korenek reports these activities of Fayette County deputies for September. Sgt. Ron Naumann responded to a fire on FM 1291 near Ledbetter. Several area fire departments responded as well as the U.S. Forest Service. The fire was extinguished.
