Power grid holds up during wintry blastThe electricity grid that covers most of Texas was holding up as of Sunday during the latest winter storm, although localized power outages were reported in Deep East Texas and far West Texas.

Legion and Auxiliary had monthly meeting Jan. 6

American Legion McBride Post 143 and Auxiliary held their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Commander Bob Heinrich called the meeting to order with 35 Legion and eight Auxiliary members in attendance. Auxiliary chaplain Linda Dieringer read the prayer.

Mailing of voter registration certificates delayed

The Fayette County Elections Department, along with counties across the state, are diligently working with the Texas Secretary of State’s Office to mail out renewal voter registration certificates for 2026-27.

Deadline to register for March primary nearsThe last day to register to vote for the March 3 primary is Feb. 2, according to the Texas secretary of state’s office. Early voting runs from Feb. 17 through Feb. 27, with Feb. 20 being the deadline for applying for a mail ballot.

The Fayette County Republican Party will hold a candidate forum in Schulenburg on Saturday, Jan. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Schulenburg KC Hall, 405 South St. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m., and food and refreshments will be available.
