Area Sales Tax Allocations

August sales tax allocations total $1.4 billion

Texas Comptroller Don Huffines said many cities and counties can reduce property taxes due to increased sales tax revenue as local governments will receive $1.4 billion in sales tax allocations for August, 13.6 percent more than in August 2025.
The Schulenburg Economic Development Corporation is pleased to partner with the City of Schulenburg on the installation of new playground equipment at the Sports Complex. TxDOT gives sober driving reminder for Labor Day

The end of summer should be a time of celebration, yet Labor Day continues to be a time when too many people choose to drive impaired. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the danger is real. Last year, 35 percent of all Texas crash fatalities were drug or alcohol-related.

Fayette Co. Appraisal District starting field work

The Fayette County Appraisal District is beginning field appraisal work in certain parts of the county for the 2027 tax year. The district’s re-appraisal plan requires an onsite property inspection at least once every three years, and the FCAD conducts its reappraisals in sections.

Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports that during the week of Aug. 9-15, officers responded to 54 calls for service and four reportable incidents were investigated as follows: •Aug. 10 – Officer Krenek responded to the 1100th block of Simpson Street in reference to burglary of a vehicle.
