Polling Sites for Nov. 7 election

For the election on Tuesday, Nov. 7, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and the Fayette County ballot will include the 14 proposed constitutional amendments and a Fayette County Special Election.

Early voting is now underway for the Nov. 7 general election. Voters will decide the fate of 14 proposed amendments, including measures to provide property tax relief and raise the homestead exemption to $100,000.

Meadow Creek Subdivision to have one-way traffic for Halloween

The Meadow Creek subdivision in the west part of Schulenburg – which usually draws hundreds of trick-or-treaters each year – will have one-way traffic on Halloween, Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 9 p.m., according to the Schulenburg Police Department.

Three items for employee handbook approved by 2-1 vote of City Council

Policies covering disaster pay, funeral pay, and chain of command were addressed by the Schulenburg City Council at its regular meeting last week. The items, to be included in the City’s employee handbook, passed by a 2-1 vote with aldermen Larry Veselka and Greg Thomas absent.

Proposed bond projects

Schulenburg ISD will be holding a special election Nov. 7 on two propositions. Shown at right are all of the projects included in the bond, which totals $19,595,000.

Impact of Schulenburg ISD’s bond on school property taxes examined

Property owners will pay significantly less in school taxes for tax year 2023 through legislation that authorized $18 billion in Texas’ budget surplus to be allocated toward property tax relief in the form of rate compression and an increase in the homestead exemption from $40,000 to $100,000.
