Plant accident claims life of 60-year-old man

A local man suffered fatal injuries while working at the Contech Engineered Solutions plant in Schulenburg on Monday, Feb. 2.Police Chief Troy Brenek said the accident occurred at around 12:17 p.m.

The Texas Workforce Commission released labor market statistics for December last week and they showed that the statewide seasonally-adjusted unemployment rose one-tenth of a percent from November to 4.3 percent.

The Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department douses the flames inside a vacant home early Sunday, Feb. 8 with its ladder truck and with firefighters on the ground. The SVFD was dispatched at around 6:35 a.m. to the small wood-framed structure near the intersection of Upton Avenue and South Street.

Local man arrested after chase

The Schulenburg Police Department reported that, on Thursday, Jan. 29 at approximately 9:11 a.m., officers observed a vehicle with no license plate traveling north in the 900 block of Herder Avenue.

Meeting held in La Grange to plan events for America’s 250th birthday

A planning meeting for events in Fayette County to celebrate America’s 250th birthday took place at the Fayette County Courthouse in La Grange on Wednesday, Jan. 28.Events being planned per each month were discussed by several committee members.

The Fayette County Republican Party hosted a candidate forum for the candidates running for county judge on Saturday, Jan. 31 at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club in La Grange.Appearing in person were Josh Homan, Josh Vandever, Michael Zweschper, and William P. Bernsen.

Burn ban remains in effect

In a press release last Thursday, Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller stated that he visited with Emergency Management Coordinator Angela Hahn, Sheriff Keith Korenek, other law enforcement personnel as well as volunteer firefighters and they concluded that the burn ban will stay in place.
