The Schulenburg Festival Scholarship Pageant will be held on Saturday, July 15 in the Knights of Columbus Hall at 6 p.m. The deadline for contestants to enter is this Friday, July 7. Entry forms are available at the Mary Jane Pesek residence, 824 Oakland Road.

Festival presale tickets available through July 10

The Schulenburg Festival is less than a month away and, this year, presale tickets for $30 are being offered through July 10. The special two-day ticket, good for admission on both Friday and Saturday (Aug. 4-5) to the rodeo and the live music at Wolters Park, is available online at www.

Twin Cities Minor League team falls in title game

Twin Cities and Weimar, as the two all-star teams in Texas East District 13 drawing from the smallest pool of players, overcame the odds to meet in the Minor League championship last week. To start the tournament, held in Brenham, both won their pools with games played June 16-22.

Local man, 64, fatally shot by his son

Ricky Machicek, 64, of Schulenburg was found deceased from an apparent gunshot wound inside a residence at 201 Upton Ave. Saturday, June 24, according to the Schulenburg Police Department. The police report stated that officers responded to a call of shots fired at 9:09 p.m.

Sludge box doesn’t get clean vote from aldermen

Following a debate on the immediate need of a fourth “sludge box” for the wastewater plants as well as a discussion on paying for the unbudgeted item, the Schulenburg City Council approved the purchase by a 3-2 vote at its meeting on Tuesday, June 20.
