Commissioners Court handles insurance items at last week’s meeting

During the meeting of the Fayette County Commissioners Court on Thursday, June 8 at the Courthouse in La Grange, a couple of insurance items were discussed. One was a three-year crime insurance proposal by The Nitsche Group for Fayette County Ambulance Fee Collectors.

City seeks individuals to serve on committees

The City of Schulenburg is seeking interested individuals who reside within the city limits to serve on committees that work toward the betterment of Schulenburg.

A San Antonio man was arrested for possession of drugs and other items following a traffic stop by the Schulenburg Police Department on Sunday, June 4. At approximately 10:20 p.m.

Fire destroys shop on Bryant Road

The Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire west of town on Bryant Road Saturday evening. A shop with equipment inside was a total loss and several vehicles around it had minor damage but were saved. The fire was contained and kept from other nearby buildings.

With the theme “All Together Now,” the Schulenburg Public Library’s Summer Reading Program for youngsters got started last week with a “friendship forest” mural hosted by Arts for Rural Texas.

Sticker awarded in TPA contest

The Schulenburg Sticker placed in four of the six categories it entered in the Texas PressAssociation’s Better Newspaper Contest. Winners were announced at the TPA’s Convention and Trade Show, held June 1-3 in Round Rock.

Claude Monk’s story ... 100 years in the making

The following was submitted by Charlotte Santana. My dad, Claude Monk, was born May 26, 1923 in Freestone County, Texas. His parents were Wesley and Ruby Watson Monk. His father died when my dad was about 3 years old, leaving his mother with three children and expecting the fourth.

Committee eyeing December date for sesquicentennial event

Plans for celebrating Schulenburg’s 150th birthday progressed with a public meeting that included representatives from the City of Schulenburg, City Council, Chamber of Commerce, and interested citizens last Wednesday.
