Festival gets HOT funds

After a presentation by Schulenburg Festival Association President Mike Zweschper, the City Council voted unanimously at last week’s meeting to grant the organization $60,000 to help with expenses for this year’s event. The funds will come out of the City’s Hotel Occupancy Tax fund.

Hiring of new superintendent, junior high principal approved

Acontract was officially offered to Dr. Julie Motomura to become Schulenburg ISD’s next superintendent following an executive session during Monday night’s Board of Trustees meeting.

Third generation of Klesel family joins Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home

For almost 70 years, families have entrusted the care of their loved ones to a Klesel at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg. Clayton Klesel had already become a third generation funeral director/embalmer and, now, joins the local business with his father and uncle, Bryan and Mark.

Council hears sesquicentennial plans

Some tentative ideas of how to celebrate Schulenburg’s 150th birthday were brought to the City Council at its meeting Monday County Judge DanMuellertook on the task of putting together a committee to plan for the sesquicentennial event prior to assuming office at the first of the year.
