Maintenance and operations increased while debt service decreased in the Schulenburg ISD’s budget for 2021-22, which was approved at the Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, Aug. 23. It comes with a lower property tax rate but the amount levied on the average residence will still go up $25.37.

Council moves forward with slight tax increase

Choosing to propose a property tax rate above the “no new revenue” level of $0.2112, the Schulenburg City Council looks to add some funds for projects in the upcoming fiscal year. The aldermen voted 5-0 to increase the levy on $100 of valuation from $0.21 to $0.

The Fayette County Commissioners Court proposed a property tax rate of $0.464 per $100 valuation at its regular meeting on Thursday, Aug. 12. While the proposed rate would be the same as the one enacted in 2019, the County will collect more revenue due to an increase in property appraisals.
