After getting knocked out of the post-season in the first or second round four times in the last 10 years, this year’s Shorthorn team reached the third round before its season ended.

Agreement for computer-aided dispatch system approved

A license and service agreement between Tyler Technologies and Fayette County for the computer-aided dispatch system was approved by the Commissioners Court at last week’s meeting. The system will be paid for through the funds received by the County from the American Rescue Plan.

County election precincts cut to 12

An order reconfiguring election precincts in Fayette County was approved by the Commissioners Court at its regular meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 24. Elections Administrator Terri Hefner said the plan is to adjust the current 26 election precincts and redistrict them, thereby leaving 12 precincts.

Five Schulenburg FFA teams qualified for the Area XI Leadership Development Events held on Saturday, Nov. 20 at Boling High School. The members participated in Senior Skills, Junior Skills, Radio Broadcasting, Ag Advocacy and Ag Issues.

While Kenedy’s power running attack successfully plodded downfield, Schulenburg struck quickly with its speed advantage for a 37-12 area playoff win last Friday at Pieper Stadium in San Antonio.

For the first time in 11 years, the Shorthorns have reached the third round of the playoffs but their 7 p.m. game Friday, Nov. 26 in Hallettsville will be against one of the top-ranked teams in Class 2A Division I. It’s also a rematch with District 13 champion Shiner.

New buses approved by SISD board

With a unanimous vote of the Board of Trustees at last week’s meeting, the Schulenburg ISD will be upgrading its vehicle fleet with the purchase of two new buses.

State unemployment drops, area rates vary in October

In October, the seasonally-adjusted Texas unemployment rate was 5.4 percent, a decrease of 0.2 percentage points from September 2021, according to the Texas Workforce Commission. Fayette, like two surrounding counties, saw its rate (not seasonally adjusted) stay the same last month.

Chamber hands out awards at membership meeting

The Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce held its annual Membership Meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at the Civic Center. The event began at 6:30 p.m. with the arrival of approximately 100 guests.
