New Miss Schulenburg & her court crowned

After two years since the last Festival Scholarship Pageant, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a new Miss Schulenburg and her court were crowned this past Saturday night, July 17. The 2021 pageant was held at the Civic Center.

According to data released on Friday, July 16, Fayette County averaged slightly more than one new COVID-19 case per day (34 cases) in the previous 30 days. For the entire 23-county Public Health Region 7, cases have been declining or flat since the spring.

Turnover in City staff discussed

Much of Monday night’s hour-long Schulenburg City Council meeting was spent on the topic of staff turnover. Under action items, the aldermen set a budget workshop for Monday, Aug. 9 at 5 p.m. at the City Hall Multi-Purpose Room.

The worldwide pandemic altered just about every aspect of life in 2020, including the annual class reunions that have been taking place as part of the Schulenburg Festival since the late 1960s.
