Fall city-wide cleanup set for Oct. 18, 22, & 25

The City of Schulenburg has scheduled its fall citywide cleanup – open only to customers who live inside the city limits and pay monthly garbage fees – on the following dates: Saturday, Oct. 18 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.Wednesday, Oct. 22 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Recent scam calls reported

On Wednesday, Oct. 1, Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek issued a press release stating that the Sheriff’s Department once again had received several scam reports.Citizens have been getting phone calls from someone claiming to be with the Sheriff’s Department or the Fayette County Judge’s Office.

SHS grad promoted to president of H-E-B

H-E-B, one of the nation’s leading independent retailers and the largest private employer in Texas, announced last week the promotion of Chief Operating Officer Roxanne Orsak to president effective January 2026.

Trash burn gets out of control near St. John Friday

Volunteer firefighters make sure a grass fire doesn’t spread to the brush and trees on property off County Line Road west of St. John. The Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department was paged at around 12:30 on Friday, Oct. 3 for a large grass fire. Due to the dry conditions and wind, it spread quickly.

County officials say reunion won’t return

The recent mass gathering held in the Nechanitz area violated both the regulations of the Texas Department of State Health Services and Fayette County’s permitting process, according to County officials.
