Three Lady Horns made a second all-state listing following the 2024 season and they were joined by a fourth on the Blue Bell/Texas SportsWriters Association team for Class 2A announced last week.

City of Schulenburg utility customers will have the option to view and pay bills online with the software upgrade that was approved by the City Council at its regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 6.

Issues with the City Hall building on North Main Street forced staff to move to a temporary location at 605 Upton Ave., as reported in the July 4 issue.

The Fayette County Commissioners Court approved a change in the appointment of the individual serving as county judge pro-tem in a 3-2 vote at its last regular meeting of the year on Monday, Dec. 23.

State unemployment increases slightly in November while changes to area rates vary

After two months at 4.1 percent, Texas’ seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate rose a tenth of a point to 4.2 percent in November, according to the Texas Workforce Commission.Fayette County’s rate (not seasonally adjusted) stayed steady from October at 3.5 percent.

Three Lady Horns selected to the Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 2A all-state volleyball team were: senior Emmrie Marx, sophomore Haylee Vacek, and junior Landry Zapalac. Marx led Schulenburg in kills this past season with 672.

County’s burn ban lifted three days after extension approved

An order that restricted outdoor burning in unincorporated areas of Fayette County was unanimously approved by the Commissioners Court at its meeting on Monday, Dec. 23.Then, a press release was issued by the office of County Judge Dan Mueller on Thursday morning, Dec. 26 that terminated the order.

Residents filled Freyburg Hall as part of a coordinated effort to oppose placement of wind turbines north of town, as reported in the June 27 issue.
