Utility, fee hikes approved by Council

Ordinance amendments that were approved by the Schulenburg City Council at its meeting last week revised water, sewer, and garbage rates with increases for 2024-25.The changes will go into effect on Oct. 1.

Arrests made for drugs, guns, assault

A San Antonio man was arrested on gun and drug charges by the Schulenburg Police Department after a traffic stop on Interstate 10 this past Saturday, Aug. 25.

Horns to kick off season Friday with tribute to coach Husmann

Before the Shorthorns take on the 2023 TAPPS Division IV semifinalists from Hallettsville Sacred Heart to start the season this Friday night, the coach who left his mark on both schools will be honored with a pre-game tribute at the field that bears his name.

The very first land grant surveyed in Stephen F. Austin’s Colony was the Sylvanus Castleman half league (2,214 acres) just a few miles from La Grange.

House fire quickly contained by SVFD

Occupants of a home in the 100 block of Baumgarten Street were able to escape a fire unharmed on Wednesday, Aug. 14.The cause was undetermined, according to Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department Chief Darren Guentert.

City Council awards bid for work on Civic Center

Water damage closed the Schulenburg Civic Center in early 2022 and, with the action of the City Council this past Monday, Aug. 19, its reopening got a little closer.

County’s budget accepted

The proposed 2025 Fayette County budget was accepted by the Commissioners Court with changes as discussed at a special meeting on Thursday, Aug. 15.The document had been filed with the County Clerk’s Office, where the general public can view it. It was also posted on the County website.
