Helms, Zapalac earn top grad honors

Schulenburg ISD announced its top two graduates for the Schulenburg High School class of 2024 last week.With the highest grade-point average for his four years at SHS, Blake Helms earned valedictorian honors. He is the son of Chad and Melissa Helms.

Primary runoff elections set for Tuesday, May 28

Runoff elections will be held in Fayette County on Tuesday, May 28 with the Republican ballot and Democratic ballot each having one district-wide race. The runoff resulted when no single candidate earned more than 50 percent of the vote in the Primary Election, which was held on March 5.

The Fayette County Commissioners Court signed a proclamation declaring May as Older Americans Month in Fayette County at its regular meeting on Thursday, May 9.

A contract with Prodigy Solutions for inmate communication services at the Fayette County Justice Center was approved by the Commissioners Court during its meeting on Thursday, May 9.Jail Administrator Holly Smith said that the current inmate phone system at the jail is through Synergy.

Lions come roaring back after Shorthorns force game three in playoff series

After an overnight postponement due to lightning seemed to ignite the Shorthorns’ bats, Kenedy reciprocated with a thunderous offensive response to win the Class 2A area series 2-1.Schulenburg finished the season with an 18-14 record and made its first post-season appearance since 2017.
Taking the oath of office for two-year terms on the City Council are (from left) Roger Moellenberndt, Clarence Ahlschlager, and Kathy Kleiber. City Secretary Mason Florus (right) issued the oath at last week’s meeting. With all three unopposed, no election was held in May. Moellenberndt, who formerly served as mayor, takes over as Place 3 alderman while Kleiber assumes Place 5 and Ahlschlager continues in Place 4.
