Use of grant funds by Sheriff’s Dept. questioned before 3-2 vote to approve

The grant budget of the Sheriff’s Department was accepted by the Fayette County Commissioners Court at a special meeting on Thursday, May 2 but only after some objections.On Monday, April 29, grant budgets were unanimously accepted for the County Attorney’s Office and constables.

A gang member from Houston was taken into custody by the Schulenburg Police Department following a traffic stop on Interstate 10 on Saturday, May 4.According to the SPD report, officers pulled over a white box truck for a traffic violation at approximately 8:16 p.m.

Drug Interdiction Sgt. Randy Thumann of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office received the award for the largest cocaine seizure in 2023 – a haul of 220 pounds – at the annual Blue Lightning Operations Center Gulf Coast HIDTA conference in Biloxi, Miss. on April 16, according to Sheriff Keith Korenek.
