Alzheimer’s Assn. encourages ‘brain health’

The Alzheimer’s Association Capital of Texas Chapter urges everyone to make brain health a priority in 2024. In addition, the Texas Chapter has set a virtual lunch-and-learn, “Healthy Living for Your Brain & Body,” for Wednesday, Feb. 7 from noon to 1 p.m.

Currently, two-thirds of Americans have at least one major risk factor for dementia. In Texas, more than 400,000 people are living with Alzheimer’s. Without any change, the number of Americans with Alzheimer’s could more than double by mid-century.

“The science on dementia risk reduction is evolving,” said Andrea Taurins, executive director, Alzheimer’s Association, Capital of Texas Chapter. “Growing evidence shows that modifying certain risk factors and promoting healthy behaviors can reduce the risk of cognitive decline and dementia. This is true even for people with a history of dementia in their families. That is why we hope Central Texas will adopt the Alzheimer’s Association’s ‘10 Healthy Habits for Your Brain’ and focus on brain health in 2024.”
