Gary Wayne Valchar was called home on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at the age of 58 years.
Gary was born on Dec. 10, 1962 to Joyce (Jahn) and Johnnie Valchar in Weimar. Gary graduated from Schulenburg High School in 1981. On Sept. 26, 1987, he married Phyllis Konarik and they lived in Schulenburg. He and Phyllis were blessed with three children, Kristy Novick and Marc, Kendra Valchar and Derek Valchar, all of Schulenburg, and three grandsons, Hudson Novick, Harrison Novick and Hayes Novick.
Gary worked in construction for 23 years but then decided to change his career. He worked for the City of Schulenburg, overseeing the Sports Complex and Wolters Park for the past 16 years. He loved watching his children compete in sporting events and participating in all the stock shows. He was an honest, hard-working, strong and loving man who is dearly loved and missed.
Survivors include his father, Johnnie Valchar of Schulenburg; wife, Phyllis Valchar of Schulenburg; daughters Kristy Novick and Marc of Schulenburg, and Kendra Valchar of Schulenburg; son, Derek Valchar of Schulenburg; sister Peggy Willbanks of Schulenburg; brother, Robert Valchar of New Bielau; mother-in-law, Henrietta Konarik Mueck of Schulenburg; and sisters-in-law, Grace Lebeda and Debbie Broun, both of Schulenburg.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Valchar; sister, Linda Valchar; father-in-law, Joe Konarik; and brother-in-law, Michael Lebeda.
The family would like to acknowledge pallbearers Cody Broun, Dusty Broun, Ronnie Wick, Bruce Lebeda, Tivo Delgado Jr. and Pete Garcia, and honorary pallbearers Mason Florus, Andy Tackett, Jason Strickland, Scott Stoner, Darren Redding, Bill Michalke, Tommy Holub, David Osina, Michael Kubala, Drew Brossmann and Glenn Muhlstein. In addition, D’Vine Testament gave a beautiful performance at the services.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 7, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church. Visitation began at 9:30 a.m. and the parish rosary was recited at 10:30 am. Interment was in St. Rose Catholic Cemetery.
“We are overwhelmed with the outpouring of support, love and condolences we have received from family, friends and the community – it is a complete representation of how wonderful of a man Gary was,” his family writes. “His presence will be forever missed, but there is comfort in knowing he has found his Heavenly home.”
