Bob Lamar Duncan was born on Feb. 16, 1939. His soul departed this world on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024.

Bob was the youngest of six children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Duncan Sr. and Myrtle Tisdale Duncan; four brothers, Frank Duncan Jr., Grady Duncan, Gene Duncan and Henry Burl Duncan; sister, Wanda Duncan Kimble; and daughter, Gina Duncan Pohly.

He is survived by his adored wife Victoria “Vicky” Trahan Duncan; daughter Dawn Duncan of Las Vegas; son Jason Duncan of Austin; four grandchildren, Kelly Pohly Lynch, Elizabeth Pohly, Matthew Pohly and Atticus Duncan; and four great-grandchildren, Emily and Owen Lynch and Knox and Elle Pohly.

Bob grew up on the west side of Beaumont. He attended Amelia Elementary, Amelia Junior High and South Park High schools. He graduated high school in 1957 and Beaumont’s Lamar University in 1972, when he began his engineering career. Bob’s engineering expertise was instrumentation technology, and he really enjoyed his engineering jobs working for several of the major engineering firms. He spent a few years in the Fluor London office and did a 6-year stint in Saudi Arabia with Aramco. He finished out his career at Mustang Engineering in Houston and was there until he retired.

In his spare time Bob was an avid sporting clays shooter and won many first place competitions. He was also the co-founder of the Texas Side by Side Club. The club was formed to support and give recognition to side by side shotgun shooters and sponsor clay shooting competitions exclusive for side by side shooters. The club is still in existence today.

Bob was also into physical fitness. He enjoyed weight training. He not only touched the lives of those with whom he worked, but also many through his community service work. He was nationally recognized as an Outstanding Exchange Club President while serving as president of the Allen Center Exchange Club. As club president, the Allen Center Club did at least one community service project per month. During his term as club president, the membership of the Allen Center Club more than doubled.

Bob also served several years as a Business Community Representative to the Spring Branch High School of Choice serving at risk youth. He was instrumental in developing an annual essay contest for the students. Every student who turned in an essay was recognized at a school assembly. For many, it was the first positive recognition they had ever received.

After winning a bout with cancer in 2004, it left him with a new perspective on life. His new focus became enjoying life on a small farm in Flatonia, Floy Farm, near the previously named town of Floy. He was so proud of his beautiful farm and lived everyday loving it.

After retiring to Flatonia, he was selected director of the Flatonia Economic Development Commission. During his time as director, an incentive program was developed to aid local business owners.

Bob was a member of the Flatonia Baptist Church. Bob served as a Flatonia Lions Club director for several years.

Bob was also co-owner of Flatonia business Floy Farm Interior Design & Flower Shop for 16 years and created many of the shop’s furnishings as well as items that were embellished and sold in the shop.
