Charles Cyril Sedlar, age 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025. He was born on Sept. 21, 1940, to Frank and Julia (Mican) Sedlar.
Charles was raised in the Breslau community of Lavaca County. His upbringing instilled in him the values of hard work, humility and loyalty – principles he carried throughout his life. He avidly enjoyed boating, fishing, camping and playing dominos. A 1958 graduate of Moulton High School, Charles began his career at Valley Gold Creamery in Victoria. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Houston and dedicated 20 years to being a welder for Mosher Steel Co.
On Aug. 18, 1962, he married Julia M. Petter; together they had four children. In time, he moved his family to Schulenburg and, after briefly working at Rigmaster, he started his own construction company. That soon led to an opportunity to work with the Texas Pioneer Arts Foundation in Round Top, whom he was with for over 30 years. He found his greatest fulfillment in the field of construction, devoting himself to restoring homes, log cabins and historic buildings throughout Fayette County and especially in the Round Top area, seeing each project as a way to preserve craftsmanship and history, especially Henkel square.
He enjoyed talking about his work and even better, giving personal tours of the buildings he restored. Charles deeply embraced his faith as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was committed to sharing Bible truths and offering encouragement to others. His genuine concern for people showed in countless ways, especially in his willingness to step forward during times of need, including natural disaster relief. He loved using his skills to assist in Kingdom Hall building projects throughout Texas and as far away as Louisiana. His quiet strength and readiness to help left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Julia (Petter) Sedlar, whose devotion and partnership were the foundation of his life. He is lovingly remembered by his four children: Cheryl, Corey, Charlet and Cathrin, who carry forward his example of integrity and kindness. Cherishing his memory as well are his 10 grandchildren: Joseph, Lauren, Ashley, Jacob, Branden, Christopher, Tyler, Chloe, Aiden and Aubree; as well as six great-grandchildren: Addox, Wesley, Lilly, Nolan, Evelyn and Stein. He is also survived by his brothers Ted (Eleanor) and Julius (Rosemary); his sister Gladys (Bobby) Jiral; his sister-in-law Leona Sedlar; and numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Julia Sedlar; his brother, Franklin Sedlar; and his sisters Rosalie (Laddie) Kocian and Patsy (Phillip) Smirak.
Those who knew Charles will remember him for his steadfast faith, his generosity, and the heartfelt care he extended to family, friends, and community. His presence will be deeply missed, and his legacy will continue through the many lives he touched.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness 1420 N. Avenue G, Shiner.
