Ernest Edwin Davis, 81, of College Station, died Nov. 4, 2021.

A longtime economist and educator, Davis is well known for his contributions to cattle raisers and the beef industry. He was also an Eagle Scout, U.S. Army Captain and served as a county Extension agent for many years.

Davis joined Texas A&M University in 1967 as an Extension assistant in livestock marketing. During his time on campus, he earned his master’s degree and doctorate in agricultural economics. In 1972, he became the department’s Extension livestock marketing economist.

Significant among Davis’ many ac complishments was the development of a computerized system for marketing feeder cattle in 1979, CATTLEX. He was recognized with the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association’s Outstanding Service and Commitment to the Livestock Industry Award in 2004. After retirement, Davis and his wife formed Mullberry Hill Cattle Ranch near Praha.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Moore Davis; children, Elaine Davis Abshire (Ty), Edwin Reed Davis (Michele), Roger Rabalais (Jennifer), and Ryan Rabalais (Genny); seven grandchildren; and siblings, James Allen Davis and David Abney.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. at St Paul’s Presbyterian Church, 712 Summit, Schulenburg.
