Franklin W. Filip, 62, of Moravia, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022 peacefully in his home.
Franklin was born in Shiner on June 14, 1959 to Marvin and Adela (Siegel) Filip. He graduated from Hallettsville High School in 1978 as a Hallettsville Brahma. Franklin married his wife Henrietta on Feb. 14, 1998 in the St. Martin’s Catholic Church known as the “smallest church in the world.” Franklin lived in Moravia all of his life.
Franklin had a long fulfilling career at Morgan Buildings in Hallettsville. He formed many lifelong friendships with co workers during his 22 years of service. Franklin began running the Moravia Store in 1998 and managed the store until Oct. 8, 2019. In his spare time, Franklin had time to deliver “That Little Paper” from 2006-2011. Throughout Franklin’s years of running the store, he had his fair share of beers, and met countless numbers of customers and lifelong friends. A few of Franklin’s accomplishments were hosting many crowd-worthy events at the Moravia Store, and collaborating with Mark Hermis and Daniel Klapuch, longtime friends, in the making of the song, “Moon Over Moravia” in 2001. All the while, Franklin was a devoted and loving husband, as well as helped raise his nieces and nephews, and all of his grandchildren. Franklin and Henrietta raised their granddaughter Alexis Hubenak from 2005-2013. Franklin’s other enjoyments were tending to the farm and farm animals, riding around through the country and listening to his favorite polka tunes.
Franklin will be greatly missed – he was a true gift of life to all who loved him, he was an inspiration to his family, and will be for generations to come.
