Born on April 11, 1930 in Schulenburg, he was the son of Adela (Huebner) and Joseph C. Anders. He served in the Army for four years. In a group of about two dozen young ladies at a dance hall in Hallettsville, Gus looked across the hall and saw the love of his life, Doris. When he saw her, he already knew that she was the one he would marry. They got married on June 25, 1956 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. They made their first home in San Antonio, where Gus worked for many years at the Pearl Brewery. He always enjoyed cooking, so he moved his family to Houston where he ventured out on his own and bought a restaurant in the 1970s. After several years, he returned to Schulenburg, where he spent his time gardening, growing fruit trees and flowers. He also had several cows which he enjoyed taking care of. He continued his love of cooking in his retirement years. He was an excellent provider and a wonderful husband and dad.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg. He loved gardening, cooking and loved his faith.
