Juanita Escobedo, age 79, entered into rest on Saturday, June 11, 2022 in the city of her birth, San Antonio. She was born on Aug. 19, 1942.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mateo Escobedo and Maria Moreno; maternal grandparents, Bartolo Moreno and Felicitas Soto; paternal grandparents, Antonio Escobedo and Josefina Garza-Escobedo; sister, Erminia Carrasco; sister-in-law, Jesusa Escobedo; and brothers-in-law, Salvador De La Garza and Manuel D. Hernandez.
She is survived by her children, Roberta Avitua, George Avitua, Norma Avitua-Ovalle (Michael Ovalle) and Jacqueline Hollyday (Henry); siblings Guadalupe Escobedo, Celia Stafford (Rev. Andrew) of Schulenburg, Enriqueta Hernandez and Irene De La Garza. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Hannah Lisa Nova (Chris), Jonathan Avitua, David Avitua, Zechariah Avitua, Christopher A. Kenyon (Kathleen), Lillian Hollyday and Izabella Hollyday; five great-grandchildren; her dearest lifelong best friend, Alice Guerra; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, many other relatives, and friends.
Juanita was a beautiful, strong, and loving woman. Juanita was a fulltime homemaker, who was dedicated to her children’s education. Juanita took pride in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Juanita worked for Frito Lay in San Antonio and M&M Mars in Waco. Juanita had great work ethics, which she instilled in her children. Juanita worked at John Peter Smith in Fort Worth and University Hospital in San Antonio until she retired in 2008. Juanita was called “Janie” by many friends. She had an incredible sense of humor, she was loved by all and will be deeply missed.
Visitation was held on Sunday, June 26 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Palm Heights Mortuary, 3711 South Zarzamora St., San Antonio, with rosary at 6 p.m.
Funeral Mass was held Monday, June 27 at 10 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 7893 Grissom Road., San Antonio.
Palm Heights Mortuary of San Antonio was in charge of arrangements.
