Larry Joseph Hoeinghaus, 73, of Schulenburg, joined the angels in Heaven on Thursday, Jan. 7. He was born on June 18, 1947 in Fort Worth to Walter and Alma (Heinrich) Hoeinghaus, the fourth of eight children.

Larry graduated from Schulenburg High School in 1965. He went on to join the Army National Guard and achieved the rank of sergeant in the Airborne Infantry. On June 22, 1974, he married the love of his life, Dolly Droemer, at St. Mary Catholic Church in High Hill. Together, they raised two beautiful daughters, Kathryn and Rebekah.

Larry worked as a livestock supervisor and retired after 21 years from the Texas Department of Corrections. Later, he also retired from the United States Postal Service after working as a rural mail carrier for a number of years. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion. Larry was an avid cattle rancher, hunter and fisherman. When he wasn’t feeding his cows, he was feeding the door that roamed his property. When he would go fishing, he had to be the first one to cast his fishing bait into the water and he always managed to catch the most fish. In addition, he spent hours playing his favorite card game, Tarocks, and has many trophies to show for it. He also looked forward to an occasional trip to play the slot machines in Louisiana. What he enjoyed the most though was helping his children and grandchildren with their 4-H and FFA projects. His knowledge of raising show broilers will be greatly missed.

His is survived by his wife, Dolly Hoeinghaus of Schulenburg; his children, Kathryn Jobb and husband Tony of College Station, and Rebekah Ouellette and husband Edgar of Katy; three grandchildren, Madison and Samantha Jobb and Ben Ouellette; his brother, Donald Hoeinghaus and wife Doris of Weimar; his sisters, Lorene Hasse of Weimar, Shirley Poppe of Weimar, Mary Stavinoha and husband Don of Columbus, Arlene Zapalac and husband David of La Grange, and Denise Trojacek and husband Lad of Schulenburg; brother-in-law, Ray Fogleman of Schulenburg; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Alma Hoeinghaus; an infant son; his sister, Carolyn Fogleman; and three brothers-in-law, Ernest Hasse Jr., Lee Poppe and Adrian Meyer.

Services were held on Friday, Jan. 15 at St. Mary Catholic Church in High HIll. He was buried with full military honors.

He will forever be remembered for his smile, his sense of humor, and for being first in line to eat at family gatherings.
