Linda Vacek was born on Sept. 12, 1950, in Schulenburg to George and Josie (Anders) Konvicka. She graduated from Schulenburg High School and later moved to Houston, where she worked at First Reserve Bank. She and Zeke Vacek were married on Sept. 15, 1973, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Schulenburg. The couple made their home in Schulenburg, where they raised their children, Vicki and Lance. Linda and Zeke celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2023, surrounded by family. Linda devoted much of her career to banking, working as a teller at First National Bank and continuing through its transitions to Norwest, Victoria Bank & Trust and later Wells Fargo, until her retirement in 1999. Known for her warm smile, efficiency and strong work ethic, she especially enjoyed her time in the motor bank, where she often provided faster service than expected and formed many lasting friendships. After retirement, Linda embraced her favorite role – being Grandma. She treasured time with her grandchildren, from long walks and outdoor adventures to riding on “Johnny the Gator,” helping with yard work, and creating annual Christmas scavenger hunts that became beloved family traditions. She also enjoyed shopping trips with her daughter, Vicki. Linda was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She rarely missed a family event and could often be found recording special moments from the stands. She kept close ties with family, friends and neighbors, regularly checking in with phone calls and messages. She took pride in maintaining family traditions, including hosting family Christmas gatherings. Linda’s quiet strength held her family together like clear glue, always offering kindness, patience and unwavering support.
Though she missed Zeke deeply, they are now together again, watching over their children and grandchildren from the best seat in the house.
Linda will be forever remembered and missed by her children, Vicki and Lance, and her daughter-in-law Wendy; her grandchildren Taiton, Slade, Mason and Kallie, along with Alyssa Otto; her sisters Doris Brisco and Barbara Konvicka; her brother Thomas Konvicka and his wife Rhonda; her sisters-in-law JoAnn Konvicka, Loraine Stavinoha, and Jane Hale and husband EJ; and many nieces and nephews.
She will be greeted in heaven by her husband, Zeke Vacek; her parents, George and Josie Konvicka; her in-laws, Adolph and Mary Vacek; her sonin- law, Keith Hudec; her brother, Allen Konvicka; and her brothers-in-law, Joe Stavinoha and Darius Brisco.
Her family writes: “Mom and Grandma Linda will be deeply missed, remembered with love, and will forever hold a special place in our hearts.”
