Mary Evelyn Maywald

Mary Evelyn Maywald, of Weimar was called home to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, April 28, 2025 at the age of 89.

She was born on July 14, 1935, in Mission, Texas, and married Paul Maywald in 1956. They lived in South America for a few years then they moved back to Texas and started a dairy. They were blessed with three beautiful children. Paul lost his life in an accident in 1966. Afterward, Mary married Bob Stutts until 1980, when she moved to Austin and worked for Ford Motor Credit. After her retirement, Mary spent much of her time at her beloved “farm” where she enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes and cooking wonderful meals for family and friends. She met and married Billy Dement in 2005 and they spent the remainder of their lives working on the farm. Mary’s spirited nature and friendly demeanor made her a cherished member of her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorotha and Russell Ewald; her brothers, Harold, Lee, Ralph and Kenny Ewald; her sister, Doris McIver; Paul Maywald, Bob Stutts and Billy Dement; as well as her daughter, Hope Maywald.

She is survived by her sister, Laura Rose; her daughter, Paula Stumberg and husband Herb; her son, Chad Maywald and wife Rhonda; grandchildren, Taylor Heger and husband Cameron, Hunter Ulmer and wife Katy, Logan Maywald and wife Jamie, and Jordan Maywald; along with six great-grandchildren.

Mary’s life was dedicated to her loved ones and community. She actively served at First United Methodist Church in Weimar, the cemetery board and she was a big fan of Weimar girls’ sports. Mary helped numerous veterans receive medical and disability benefits. She touched the lives of many and will be remembered for her friendship and love.

Family and friends will celebrate her life on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Weimar, with a service in the Sanctuary followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall.
