Willy Frank (Bill) Bohlmann Jr., age 93, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 9, 2020. He was born July, 5, 1927 to the late Willy F. and Leona (Bruns) Bohlmann.

After 41 years, working as a pioneer in drilling exploratory offshore oil wells in 23 countries with Humble Oil/ExxonMobil affiliates, he returned in 1992 to his native Schulenburg.

Dual careers in the military and the engineering fields mark Willy Bohlmann’s commitment to service. He retired in 1980 as colonel from the U.S. Army Reserve following 34 years of distinguished service. His oil industry career culminated in 1992 in China, as president and general manager of Esso China Ltd.

Bohlmann earned bachelor’s (1950) and master’s (1951) degrees in civil engineering from Texas A&M. In 1995, he was honored to receive the Texas A&M Association of Former Students Distinguished Alumnus Award. In 2000, he was one of the first 18 to receive the Texas A&M’s Civil Engineering Department’s Distinguished Graduate Award. In 2002, Bohlmann was inducted into the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Hall of Honor.

Funeral services for Bohlmann will be held in Schulenburg on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 11 am. Visitation at St Rose of Lima Catholic Church will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday. American Legion memorial ceremony will start at 10:30 a.m. and be followed by parish rosary at 10:45 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Entombment will be in St Rose of Lima Catholic Mausoleum. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Schulenburg American Legion.

Willy is survived by wife, Mildred Klesel Bohlmann; sons Stephen (Caterina) and Philip (Donna) of Katy, Texas; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Willy was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Mona Ewing Wendtland.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
