Bernice Kobza Pauler, age 76, of St. John, passed into eternal rest on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020. She was born on April 20, 1944 to Felix and Henrietta Staha Kobza and had two brothers, Gerald and Harlan Kobza. She grew up picking cotton on her family’s farm in Engle.

Cheryl Marie Shaver, 32, of La Grange, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2020. Cheryl was born in Waco on Aug, 6, 1988, the daughter of Jerrell Wayne and Susan Annette (Riddle) Guidry. Cheryl graduated in 2006 from Bastrop High School.

Bernice A. Hollas, 86, passed away in Houston, on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2020. Bernice was born on a farm, north of Schulenburg, on Oct. 25, 1933. She grew up in the St. John community near Schulenburg. Bernice married Alvin J. Hollas on Oct.19, 1953. They moved to Houston.

James Leo Kainer passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2020. James, loving husband and father, also affectionately known as “Coach,” was born Sept. 17, 1960 in Weimar to Leo and Viginia (Wagner) Kainer.

James G. Schmalz of Missouri City passed away there on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020. The funeral was held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg on Monday, Aug. 17 at 10 a.m., with Rev. Tim Kosler officiating. Interment took place in the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery.
