Legion and Auxiliary had monthly meetings June 3

American Legion McBride Post 143 and Auxiliary held their monthly meetings on Tuesday, June 3. Commander Bob Heinrich called the meeting to order with 38 Legion and 13 Auxiliary members in attendance. Auxiliary chaplain Linda Dieringer read the prayer.

St. John Parish Fourth of July PicnicSt. John Parish will hold its picnic on Friday, July 4 at the parish grounds in St. John. The “full old-time picnic” will start with Mass at 9 a.m. and a flag-raising at 10 a.m.

Local Food Pantry serves 149 families during May

The Schulenburg Area Food Pantry served 149 families in May with a total of 473 individuals. The Pantry had six new clients with 20 individuals in those families. The amount of food given out was 8,378 pounds. Food donated was 3,215 pounds The volunteer hours were 353.

47th annual Machac family reunion held at St. John

The 47th yearly gathering of the Paul and Josephine Machac family occurred on Saturday, June 7 at the St. John outdoor pavilion, drawing 82 attendees.Welcoming remarks and a family news update were provided by president Jarrad Michna.

Fayette Czech Heritage Society holds Piknik

The Fayette County Czech Heritage Society met on Tuesday, June 10 in the Hanslik Hall at Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center in La Grange for its annual Piknik.

Fayette 4-H’ers receive scholarships, awards at Texas 4-H Roundup

Fayette County 4-H’ers competed in the 2025 Texas 4-H Roundup at Texas A&M University in College Station from June 3-5.Texas 4-H Roundup is the pinnacle event for Texas 4-H, with senior 4-H members competing in approximately 50 diverse contests.

61st Appelt family reunion attended by 103 members

A total of 103 family members gathered for the 61st Appelt family reunion at Appelt’s Hill Hall near Hallettsville on June 1.A delicious meal of stew, sausage, potatoes and green beans was prepared by Tommy Macha and his family, with side dishes and desserts brought by members.
