A week after their games were cancelled due to weather, the Shorthorn sub-varsity teams closed out their seasons in Thrall last Thursday, Nov. 2 The junior varsity suffered a 28-8 loss to finish with an overall record of 5-4 and a district mark of 3-2.

Lady Horns keep district record spotless with five-set win in finale

The Lady Horns got off to a slow start in the District 27-2A finale at home last Tuesday against Shiner but regrouped to win the match 3-2. The Lady Comanches needed a victory to avoid a second-play tie with Weimar and came out strong, taking the first two sets.

Hornets slip by upset-minded Shorthorns to claim district title

Instead of inches, it was more like a game of a yard or so for the Shorthorns in Holland last Friday. That’s how close they were to going up by 10 points with under six minutes left but a fumble through the end zone helped the Hornets fend off Schulenburg 36-32.

SHS XC teams compete at 2A Region IV meet in Corpus Christi

Schulenburg High School’s cross country teams competed in the Class 2A Region IV meet at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The event, which included all classifications, was held Oct. 23--24 with 2A qualifiers running last Tuesday.

SHS’ enrollment increases 11 from two years ago for UIL’s 2023 ‘snapshot’ day

University Interscholastic League member high schools across the state reported their enrollment on its “snapshot” day Friday, Oct. 27 and Schulenburg turned in 251, an increase of 11 from 2021. Currently, Class 2Aincludes 219 schools with enrollments from 105 to 249.

Lady Horn senior middle blocker Meredith Magliolo, shown at right getting a kill in the first set against Shiner last Tuesday, was selected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association “Best and Brightest” First Team.
