Horns hold Little League Appreciation Night

Over 30 Little Leaguers, shown above along with Shorthorn varsity team members, took part in Little League Appreciation Night prior to last week’s game against Bloomington at the Sports Complex.

Lady Horns notch first district win

After run-ruling Flatonia at home last Tuesday for their first district win, the Lady Horns fell in five innings at Shiner on Thursday. Schulenburg, at 1-3 in District 29-2A and 8-8 overall, finished off the Lady Bulldogs with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 14-4 victory.

Horn golfers place third in two tourneys

Two Shorthorns finished in a three-way tie for the top score in the Shiner St. Paul Golf Tournament, held at Independence Golf Course in Gonzales on Monday, March 11. Following a two-hole playoff, Brycen Schramek claimed first place individually while Reid Janda ended up in third.

Shorthorns suffer pair of close losses

Despite out-hitting its last two opponents, Schulenburg came up a little short on the scoreboard. After a 4-1 loss to Flatonia and 3-1 setback against Shiner, the Shorthorns dropped to 7-8 on the season and 1-2 in District 29-2A.

Horns start district with big win in Weimar

Abig fourth inning propelled the Shorthorns to a 12-run win to start District 29-2A play in Weimar on Tuesday, March 5. Cooper Demel struck the big blow in Schulenburg’s eight-run frame with a bases-clearing triple. Aaron Janecek added another three-RBI three-bagger later in the 13-1 final.

Lady Horns run-rule Moulton after 12-1 loss

The Lady Horns dropped to 0-2 in District 29-2A after a 12-1 loss in Weimar on Tuesday, March 5 but rebounded to defeat Moulton 10-0 at the Sports Complex on Friday, March 8. Schulenburg (7-7) failed to get a hit off Ladycat pitcher Taylor Smith, who struck out nine in the five-inning contest.

Golfers place third in Flatonia tourney

With two of the top four individual scores, the Shorthorns finished in third place at Flatonia’s golf tournament on Tuesday, March 5. Reid Janda won a sudden-death playoff for the top spot. It went two holes as he and James Cesarz of Sacred Heart both bogeyed the par-5 18th hole.
