Animal Shelter statistics

As of Sept. 1, total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 1,179 for the year– 562 dogs and 617 cats in need. This is a significant increase over the same time frame in 2022 with 246 additional dogs and cats in need. As of Sept.

Local Food Pantry serves 161 families during Aug.

The Schulenburg Area Food Pantry served 161 families in August with a total of 483 individuals. This is an increase of 19 families and 45 individuals from July. The total amount of food given out was 8,884 pounds. Food donated was 3,240 pounds. The volunteer hours were 360.

CCA Meals

Combined CommunityAction’s “Meals on Wheels,” located in the Civic Center, serves frozen congregate meals or frozen meals to the homebound. Cost is $10 per week.

Cyber Security Awareness topic for RNNG gathering

The Rural Nonprofit Networking Group (RNNG) invites all nonprofit staff and volunteers to join its next gathering which will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 13 from 10 to 11 a.m. This month, the gathering will be hosted by CompuCleanser and will be held at the Frisch Auf!

Sr. Connections: gathering place for active seniors

For the members of Senior Connections, the only thing better than hanging out and enjoying a movie in a cool theater is going to the Blue Bell Creamery in Brenham. Senior Connections members will go there for a tour on Thursday, Sept. 14 and then have a leisurely lunch at a diner.

Adopt me!

The shelter has several large breed dogs available for adoption. Bella, 6-yearold female, and Toby, 2.5-year-old male, are Rottweilers who are ready to find their forever homes. Both dogs are being trained daily and are learning basic commands and socialization.

Town hall meeting on human trafficking set in Hallettsville

The Rise Up for Life Committee will present a town hall program on human trafficking and child sexual exploitation on Saturday, Sept. 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Hallettsville.

Men invited to ‘That Man Is You’ sessions on Fridays

Approximately 50 to 60 men meet at 6:30 a.m. on Fridays at St. Rose of Lima in Schulenburg because they want to be better men, husbands, sons and fathers. They struggle to make sense of what is going on in today’s culture, and felt alone going through these things.

St. James MBC car wash/hot dogs/bake sale; pastor’s anniversary St. James Missionary Baptist Church will hold a car wash, hot dogs & bake sale fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wolters Park pavilion.
