Stevens Chapel sets Family & Friends service

The Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Assembly members were very grateful to be active participants in the 63rd annual All Veterans Day service at the Praha Cemetery on Sunday, Nov. 9.

CDA takes part in WRAP campaign

The Catholic Daughters of Court of St. Rose 1597 taking part in the White Ribbon Against Pornography campaign and are working to help raise awareness in the area by placing white ribbons around St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and St. Rose of Lima Catholic School.

Turtle Wing announces year-end giving campaign

Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter statistics

The Gardenia E. JanssenAnimal Shelter hours of operation are as follows: open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday for all normal operations. On Monday, the shelter is closed to the public but staff is on-site for animal care from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

CDA ‘Make A Difference Day’ donations made

The Catholic Daughters of Court St. Rose 1597 continue to make a difference in the community, and as part of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas “Make A Difference Day,” the court donated snacks to the Schulenburg Police Department and Fayette County Emergency Medical Services.

Local Food Pantry serves 148 families in October

The Schulenburg Area Food Pantry served 148 families in October with a total of 481 individuals. The Pantry had four new clients with 14 individuals in those families. The amount of food given out was 8,959 pounds. Food donated was 4,587 pounds. Volunteer hours were 356.

Holiday Wine Walk & ShoppingA holiday wine walk/shopping will be held by the Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 3 to 7 p.m. There will be wine tastings, shopping and a chance to win door prizes. Wine glasses ($20 each) and maps will be available at the Chamber office at 618 North Main St.

The strangeness of Halloween

It’s kind of weird how Halloween is the time of year where death is highlighted in the Western Hemisphere. I don’t think all the displays of skeletons, skulls and witches takes place in the Eastern Hemisphere.

Funeral services for Gerald Winkelmann, age 80, of Schulenburg will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025 at Weimar United Church.The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. from the church.Interment will be in the Schulenburg City Cemetery.
