The Gardenia E. JanssenAnimal Shelter hours of operation are as follows: open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday for all normal operations. On Monday, the shelter is closed to the public but staff is on-site for animal care from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Combined CommunityAction’s “Meals on Wheels,” located at First Baptist Church, serves frozen congregate meals or frozen meals to the homebound. Meals should be ordered two weeks in advance and will be delivered to the homebound, or may be picked up at the center on Mondays.

Available for adoption from the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter:Coral (left) and Rambo (right) are the shelter’s honorable mention dogs this week. Both bully mixes are looking for a forever home. They are under 2 years old and do not want to grow up in the shelter.

A donation had been made by Schulenburg American Legion Post 143 to the veterans outreach program sponsored by La Grange Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Unit 5254. Through this program, acceptable items of clothing, toiletries, food, etc.
A very festive wreath-making class was taught by Martha Beckmann last month. Participating in the Artful Friday class held at Arts For Rural Texas were (from left) Martha Beckmann, Delores Bittner, Janice Collins, Lillian Vanicek, Cynthia Meyer, Cathy Besetsny, Julie Hill, Irene Janda and Mary Ann Jurica.

Sr. Connections: hub for area’s active seniors

Senior Connections serves as a vibrant gathering place for seniors age 55 and up in Fayette, Colorado and Lavaca counties. It’s a welcoming community for active seniors with free membership, fantastic food and fun activities. Locations are Schulenburg at Wolters Park (1111 Bohlmann Ave.

Catholic Life Insurance social attended by 157

The High Hill-Schulenburg branch of Catholic Life Insurance held its annual social on Sunday, Sept. 28 at the KC Hall In Schulenburg.A total of 157 Catholic Life members and their families enjoyed refreshments and a delicious fried chicken meal, catered by Oakridge Restaurant.
Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Rose 1597, has made a donation toward new rugs for the entrance to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Donations were also received from the St. RoseAltar Society and Knights of Columbus Council 2902. Grace Lebeda (right), regent, represents Court St. Rose in presenting the check to Fr. Jasper Liggio (left), St. Rose pastor.
