Texas Exes food drive to benefit SAFP

The Fayette County Texas Exes are having a food drive to support the Schulenburg Area Food Pantry.Donations of nonperishable food items can be dropped off from Friday, Feb. 7 through Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Schulenburg Family Fitness Center, 145 Regency Ave.

Combined CommunityAction’s “Meals on Wheels,” located at First Baptist Church, serves frozen congregate meals or frozen meals to the homebound. Meals should be ordered two weeks in advance and will be delivered to the homebound, or may be picked up at the center on Mondays.

Catholic Relief Services of the Victoria Diocese presented the Schulenburg Area Food Pantry with a $4,000 donation to be used to purchase non-perishable food items to keep pantry shelves stocked.

Animal Shelter acknowledges Zapata’s service

The Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter (GJAS) said goodbye in 2024 to Tom Zapata of Schulenburg as a valued board member and treasurer.Zapata made a great contribution to the shelter; his efforts made a significant impact on the lives of countless animals in need in the Fayette County community.

KVLG KBUK donates toward La Grange ISD band trip to New York City

The La Grange High School Band recently received a donation that will help the band with its plans for an upcoming trip. KVLG KBUK radio station donated $1,000 toward the band’s trip to Carnegie Hall in New York City. The money will be used for expenses.

City Council proclamation designates Feb. 12 as ‘Red Door Day’ in Schulenburg

A proclamation was signed at the Schulenburg City Council meeting on Monday, Jan. 27 supporting local mental health efforts.
