Local Food Pantry serves 146 families in Sept.

The Schulenburg Area Food Pantry served 146 families in September with a total of 477 individuals. The Pantry had seven new clients with a total of 25 individuals. The amount of food given out was 8,552 pounds Food donated was 3,135 pounds. The volunteer hours were 326.

Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter statistics

As of Oct. 4, total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 1,288 for the year – 570 dogs and 718 cats in need.As of Oct. 4, the shelter had 104 animals in its care – 36 dogs and 68 cats.

Turtle Wing family support group to meet

Turtle Wing Foundation’s new family support group meets every second Monday of the month on a rotating location basis in order to make the group accessible to all Turtle Wing families in its service area of Fayette, Lavaca and Colorado counties.

Combined CommunityAction’s “Meals on Wheels,” located at First Baptist Church, serves frozen congregate meals or frozen meals to the homebound. Meals should be ordered two weeks in advance and will be delivered to the homebound, or may be picked up at the center on Mondays.

Second Chance Emporium (SCE) recently donated $16,000 to And Then A New Day. Monies donated will be used for tuition assistance in the And Then A New Day program which provides meaningful work, social and life opportunities for young adults on the autism spectrum or who have learning challenges.
