Combined CommunityAction’s “Meals on Wheels,” located at First Baptist Church, serves frozen congregate meals or frozen meals to the homebound. Meals should be ordered two weeks in advance and will be delivered to the homebound, or may be picked up at the center on Mondays.

Second Chance Emporium (SCE) recently donated $10,000 to the Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center (TCHCC). Monies donated will be used to keep educational programs and events available to all ages; and for expenses in materials, supplies, printing fees and speakers for yearly programs and classes.

Local CDA members go to national convention

Some 1,600 members of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas – formed in 1903 and now one of the largest organizations of Catholic women in the Americas, – gathered in New Orleans from Aug. 14-18 for their 60th biennial national convention.Among those attending were Grace Lebeda, regent of Court St.

Animal Shelter statistics

As of Sept. 13, total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 1,201 for the year – 532 dogs and 669 cats in need.As of Sept. 13, the shelter had 107 animals in its care – 40 dogs and 67 cats.
