Sr. Connections: gathering place for active seniors

Next week will be exciting for Senior Connections, starting in Schulenburg on Monday, Aug. 12. Tater tot casserole, sausage, mixed vegetables and dessert are the menu, and lunch-andlearn speaker will be Deborah Bradley, director of Texas Quilt Museum in La Grange.

Animal Shelter statistics

As of Aug. 2, total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 1,017 for the year – 440 dogs and 577 cats in need.As of Aug. 2, the shelter had 145 animals in its care – 71 dogs and 74 cats.

CCA Meals

Combined CommunityAction’s “Meals on Wheels,” located in the Civic Center, serves frozen congregate meals or frozen meals to the homebound. Meals should be ordered two weeks in advance and will be delivered to the homebound, or may be picked up at the center on Mondays.

Local Food Pantry serves 132 families during July

The Schulenburg Area Food Pantry served 132 families in July with a total of 395 individuals. The Pantry had three new clients with a total of nine individuals. The amount of food given out was 6,964 pounds. Food donated was 3,352 pounds. The volunteer hours were 281.

Available for adoption from the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter:Dumpling is an 8-month-old terrier mix. He has a friendly disposition (with people and other dogs) and loves to play with toys. He had a broken tibia but has healed splendidly. He is fully vaccinated and neutered.
