Animal Shelter statistics

As of July 26, total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 979 for the year – 416 dogs and 563 cats in need.As of July 26, the shelter had 145 animals in its care – 72 dogs and 73 cats.

This little brother/sister duo are part of a litter of eight. They were brought in at a very young age without their mom. The shelter staff and volunteers have made sure these puppies got the best start possible in life. They are ready to find families of their own.

Second Chance Emporium (SCE) recently donated $1,500 to Schulenburg American Legion Post 143. Monies donated will be used as part of the Memorial Day flag fund through which flags are placed on the graves of veterans in 12 cemeteries in the Schulenburg area.

Combined CommunityAction’s “Meals on Wheels,” located in the Civic Center, serves frozen congregate meals or frozen meals to the homebound. Meals should be ordered two weeks in advance and will be delivered to the homebound, or may be picked up at the center on Mondays.

KC Council 2902 installs officers

The Schulenburg Knights of Columbus Fr. Roman Janak Council 2902 recently held its election of officers and installation ceremony. At the helm for his fifth straight year is Grand Knight Paul Zapalac.
The Knights of Columbus 4th Degree St Michael’s Assembly No. 1527 of Flatonia, Schulenburg and Weimar made a $500 donation to the Schulenburg Area Food Pantry. On hand for the check presentation were (from left) Faithful Navigator Paul Zapalac, Food Pantry president Debra Blansitt, Faithful Purser Tom Bargas and Faithful Trustee Ken Berger.

Senior Connections invites everyone for coffee, conversation and games on Monday, July 29. The meal will have a Mexican flare. Tamales donated by Carolyn Moore will be paired with enchiladas, Spanish rice, black beans and corn salad from Senior Connections. Moore will also donate desert.
