The Central Texas Food Bank presented a H.O.P.E. (Helping Our Partners Excel) conference on Aug. 29 for its 21-county area.Among those attending were Debra Blansitt and Jack Niesner of the Schulenburg Area Food Pantry and Cassie Girard of the AMEN food pantry in La Grange.

Local Food Pantry serves 146 families in August

The Schulenburg Area Food Pantry served 146 families in August with a total of 469 individuals. The Pantry had three new clients with a total of 12 individuals. The amount of food given out was 7,920 pounds Food donated was 4,135 pounds. The volunteer hours were 335.

The Schulenburg Public Library has received a $10,000 grant from the Tocker Foundation to be used to purchase books for the library.The Tocker Foundation was established in 1964 to implement the philanthropic interests of Phillip and Olive Tocker.

As of Aug. 23, total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 1,092 for the year – 465 dogs and 627 cats in need.As of Aug. 23, the shelter had 115 animals in its care – 45 dogs and 70 cats.
