Cookie is a female terrier mix and Husk is a male shepherd mix. Both dogs are very well behaved and about 5 years old. They are “fixed” and current on all vaccines.They are currently in a foster home together because the shelter is overcrowded. They do well with children and are both house-trained.

5-week youth group therapy sessions to start June 11

Therapy sessions for youth groups are being offered starting on Tuesday, June 11, sponsored by Turtle Wing Foundation, Guiding Hearts Counseling, Red Door Fund for Mental Health and BRIDGE.The sessions will run for five weeks and be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Combined CommunityAction’s “Meals on Wheels,” located in the Civic Center, serves frozen congregate meals or frozen meals to the homebound.Please call 979-743-4036 two weeks in advance for the meals, which will be delivered to the homebound or may be picked up at the center on Mondays.

Memorial services for Roy Allen Smrkovsky, age 79, of Schulenburg will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 10 a.m. from the First Methodist Church in Schulenburg, Texas.Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Schulenburg or the Schulenburg Junior Livestock Show.

Local veterans of Schulenburg American Legion Post 143, Sons of the American Legion, Legion Riders and Vietnam Veterans Chapter 870 gathered at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 20 to honor deceased veterans of all eras buried in area cemeteries.

Statistics from Animal Shelter given

As of May 24, total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 659 for the year – 292 dogs and 367 cats in need.As of May 24, the shelter had 121 animals in its care – 58 dogs and 63 cats.

Juneteenth celebration planned here June 19

Juneteenth will be celebrated in Schulenburg on Wednesday, June 19 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Wolters Park pavilion.Everyone is invited and there will be no admission fee.Activities will include a bike parade, bingo and door prizes.
