Men’s conference slated Jan. 13-14 at St. James

The St. James Missionary Baptist Church community is beginning the year with a “Men Leading the Way!” conference on Saturday, Jan. 13 from 2 to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 14 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Animal Shelter statistics

As of Jan. 5, total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 23 for the year 2024– eight dogs and 15 cats in need. As of Jan. 5, the shelter had 70 animals in its care – 36 dogs and 34 cats.

Red Door Fund announces campaigns

The Red Door Fund for Mental Health, a program established in 2021 through the Fayette Community Foundation, is now looking to 2024 and has already secured a $25,000 matching donation.

CCA Meals

CCA’s “Meals on Wheels,” located in the Civic Center, serves frozen congregate meals or frozen meals to the homebound. Please call 979-743-4036 two weeks in advance for the meals, which will be delivered to the homebound or may be picked up at the center on Mondays.

FUNERAL NOTICE - Helen Shimek

Funeral services for Helen Shimek, age 87, of Schulenburg will be held Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. from the St. Rose Catholic Church in Schulenburg, Texas. Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Parish Rosary to be recited prior to the Mass at 10 a.m.

Food Pantry serves 148 families during December

The Schulenburg Area Food Pantry served 148 families in December with a total of 480 individuals. The Pantry had five new clients with a total of 19 individuals. The amount of food given out was 8,888 pounds. Food donated was 3,948 pounds. The volunteer hours were 336.
