Funeral services for Dan Pipilas, age 65, of Schulenburg will be held Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024 at 11 a.m. from the St. Mary's Catholic Church in High Hill, Texas. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the church with the Parish Rosary to be recited prior to the Mass at 10:30 a.m.

Sr. Connections: gathering place for active seniors

The Senior Connections 2024 Mardi Gras breakfast on Tuesday, Feb. 13 was a success, followed by a somber meal on Wednesday, Feb. 14. What a difference between Fat Tuesday and Ash Wednesday – going from a day of indulgence to one of humility upon entering the Lenten season.

Animal Shelter statistics

As of Feb. 16, total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 170 for the year – 99 dogs and 71 cats in need. As of Feb. 16, the shelter had 88 animals in its care – 53 dogs and 35 cats.

Hours of operation for Second Chance Emporium in La Grange are as follows: •Donations Drop-off Hours – 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. •Sales Store Hours – 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Second Chance is located at 841 South Reynolds in La Grange.

Second Chance Emporium (SCE) recently donated a total of $20,000 to the 10 volunteer fire departments of Fayette County – La Grange, Schulenburg, Fayetteville, Flatonia, Round Top/Warrenton, Ellinger, Muldoon, Ledbetter, Winchester and Carmine each received $2,000.

Everyone is having so much fun at Senior Connections! When 41 members show up on a Wednesday after two days of bad weather and the Center being closed, it shows that they have missed coming to be with their friends, have a laugh and share a warm meal.
