Meet Digger and Rigger. These beautiful hound dogs have been separated from their beloved owner because she fell ill and is no longer able to care for them. These boys would do well in a home together or separately. Both have proven to be dog and people friendly.

Second Chance gives $10,000 to Flatonia Public Library

Second Chance Emporium (SCE) recently donated $10,000 to the Flatonia Public Library. Monies donated will be used to add new and large-print books to the library, to sponsor a summer reading program, to purchase Apollo software and to establish a new website.

FUNERAL NOTICE - Atlin Frank Gabler

Memorial services for Atlin Frank Gabler, age 81, of Schulenburg will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 10 a.m. from the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg, Texas. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Parish Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m.

Zion Lutheran donates to SAFP thru drive held by Dorcas Guild

The Zion Lutheran Church Dorcas Guild recently sponsored a Souper Bowl of Caring drive to benefit the Schulenburg Area Food Pantry. There was a congregational ingathering that collected $600 for the SAFP.

Knights of Columbus take part in ‘March for Life’

The Knights of Columbus participated in the annual “March for Life” on Jan. 27 at Columbus, hosted by the Catholic Daughters of America, Court 1588 of Columbus. The march had over 100 participating. Guest speakers were Deacon Doug Tromblee, Deacon Andy Nunmaker and Deacon Rusty Thuet.

Percy and Boots are two of the senior dogs at the shelter. Both dogs deserve to spend their golden years in a home they can call their own. Boots, a brown and white male, and Percy, a black and tan female, are both people and dog friendly. They are leash and kennel trained.

CCA Meals

Combined CommunityAction’s “Meals on Wheels,” located in the Civic Center, serves frozen congregate meals or frozen meals to the homebound. Please call 979-743-4036 two weeks in advance for the meals, which will be delivered to the homebound or may be picked up at the center on Mondays.

Weimar KCs Fried Catfish Dinners During Lent Weimar Knights of Columbus Council 2153 will hold a drive-thru-only fried catfish dinner each Friday of Lent – March 1, March 8, March 15 and March 22 – from 5 to 7 p.m. or until sold out at the St. Michael Catholic Church Family Center in Weimar.

GJAS gives statistics

As of Feb. 23, total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 191 for the year – 108 dogs and 83 cats in need. As of Feb. 23, the shelter had 77 animals in its care – 51 dogs and 26 cats.
