Alzheimer’s Assn. lists winter activity ideas

With many families caring for their loved ones at home, finding ways to stay engaged and active indoors during the cold winter months can be challenging, but it can be particularly challenging for the millions of people living with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia.

Funeral services for Mr. Daniel "Zeke" Vacek, age 74, of Schulenburg will be held Saturdaay, Jan. 13, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. from the St. Rose Catholic Church in Schulenburg, Texas. Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. on Friday at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg.
Joe and Roxanne Orsak (center) donated $5,000 to the Schulenburg Area Food Pantry recently. The Orsaks continue to support the Food Pantry and their donations have allowed the pantry to purchase non-perishable food and household items needed to keep the shelves stocked. Men’s conference slated Jan. 13-14 at St. James

The St. James Missionary Baptist Church community is beginning the year with a “Men Leading the Way!” conference on Saturday, Jan. 13 from 2 to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 14 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

As of Jan. 5, total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 23 for the year 2024– eight dogs and 15 cats in need. As of Jan. 5, the shelter had 70 animals in its care – 36 dogs and 34 cats.

The Red Door Fund for Mental Health, a program established in 2021 through the Fayette Community Foundation, is now looking to 2024 and has already secured a $25,000 matching donation.

CCA Meals

CCA’s “Meals on Wheels,” located in the Civic Center, serves frozen congregate meals or frozen meals to the homebound. Please call 979-743-4036 two weeks in advance for the meals, which will be delivered to the homebound or may be picked up at the center on Mondays.

Funeral services for Helen Shimek, age 87, of Schulenburg will be held Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. from the St. Rose Catholic Church in Schulenburg, Texas. Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Parish Rosary to be recited prior to the Mass at 10 a.m.
