New Fayette County jail administrator named

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that he has appointed a new jail administrator at the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Holly Smith will be the first female jail administrator for Fayette County. Smith replaced Edward Sawyer, who retired earlier this month.

County officials attend meeting on distribution of mitigation funds

Fayette County elected officials attended the kickoff meeting on Aug. 17 in Bastrop for the General Land Office’s (GLO) Regional Mitigation Program. GLO discussed the method of distribution for the mitigation funds that the county is slated to receive through the Hurricane Harvey funds.

A 911 call reporting a structure fire, with someone still in the house who could not get out, was received by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, Aug. 16 around 9:38 p.m., according to Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek.

Driver tries to discard drugs during traffic stop by deputy near Flatonia

A traffic stop in the Flatonia area resulted in a drug arrest on Friday, Aug. 18, according to a report from the Fayette County Sheriff's Office. At approximately 9:45 p.m., Deputy Cody Williams made the traffic stop on a vehicle for an infraction.
