Flooding batters Hill Country once again A massive amount of rain once again engulfed the Hill Country, causing widespread flooding in several counties, including Uvalde, Kerr, Kendall and Gillespie. At least two fatalities were reported near Comfort and Uvalde.More than 270 people were rescued.

County’s unemployment increases to 4.6% in June, state’s rate ticks up slightly

The Texas Workforce Commission released labor market statistics for June last week and they showed that the statewide seasonally-adjusted unemployment rose 0.1 of a percent to 4.4 percent.Fayette and eight surrounding counties saw more significant increases in their rates (not seasonally adjusted).

Free workshops on basic digital skills slated here

The Schulenburg Public Library will host a series of free workshops in August at Blinn College-Schulenburg, focusing on helping people learn essential digital skills. The classes are being offered at no cost thanks to a partnership with national nonprofit, Connected Nation (CN).

Sales tax allocations for July total $1.2 billion

Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced on Wednesday, July 8 that he was sending cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations for July, 5.6 percent more than in July 2025.
