In the Republican Primary held on March 3, challenger Dennis Geesaman defeated incumbent Stan Kitzman in the race for the Texas House of Representatives District 85 seat.The former Flatonia mayor and city councilman won by a 3,922vote margin, getting 1,006 more votes than Kitzman in Fayette County.

Bob and Darlene Stryk, owners of Stryk Jersey Farm west of Schulenburg, were selected for the Fayette County Soil and Water Conservation District Conservation Rancher award. The presentation was made the District’s awards banquet on Feb. 19.

Thieves apprehended after several 911 calls

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that on Friday, Feb. 27 at approximately 6:05 a.m., deputies Terry Guentert, James Ulbig, and Ty Roggenkamp received a series of 911 calls stating that one or two subjects had been beating on windows and doors and going through vehicles.

Library to host special exhibit through July 4

The Schulenburg Public Library invites the public to view a new, temporary exhibit – Texas America250 – on loan from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission through July 4.The library, located at 310 Simpson St., is open Mondays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m.

SPD nabs trio involved in organized theft ring

The Schulenburg Police Department reported on Wednesday, Feb. 25 that officers stopped a white Honda SUV on Interstate 10 eastbound near mile marker 674 for multiple traffic offenses the previous Sunday at approximately 4:35 p.m.
