The Schulenburg Ministerial Alliance Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 1103 James Ave. Pastor Pamela Sattiewhite of Steven’s Chapel United Methodist Church will preach. A meal follows worship. Please bring a dessert to share.

County building permit process discussed

The permit process for building in the county was brought up at last Thursday’s meeting of the Fayette County Commissioners Court.

Burn ban lifted on Nov. 10

The Fayette County Commissioners Court voted to lift the burn ban during its meeting on Thursday, Nov. 10. The motion, made by Precinct 4 Commissioner Drew Brossmann and seconded by Precinct 3 Commissioner Harvey Berckenhoff, passed unanimously.

The Fayette County Commissioners Court signed a proclamation commemorating Fayette Electric Cooperative’s 85th anniversary on Thursday, Nov. 10.

Holiday arts & crafts show set Nov. 13 by Chamber

Sunday, Nov. 13, will be the Holiday in the Country arts and crafts show presented by the Greater Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce. The doors will open at 9 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. The event will be held at the Schulenburg Hall (formerly known as the Schulenburg KC Hall), 405 South St.

City Council approves two $100,000 EDC loans

Resolutions supporting low-interest loans from the Schulenburg Economic Development Corporation to two local businesses were approved by the City Council at its meeting Monday, Nov. 7. CityAdministrator Tami Walker said a second reading and vote would be required before they go into effect.

Local American Legion asking for help to move headstone of Civil War veteran

Coinciding with Veterans Day this week, Schulenburg American Legion McBride Post 143 member Ed Semler submitted the following story about a Civil War soldier and how he ended up with a headstone in a cemetery about three miles south of town along with efforts to relocate the grave marker.

Dates for this year’s ‘Deputy Santa’ program announced

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek and the deputies of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office have announced that this year’s Deputy Santa Program will be conducted from Monday, Nov. 21 to Friday, Dec. 16. Toys will be handed out to participants at three different locations on Dec. 21.
