Bridges to be replaced on two Precinct 4 roads

Fayette County Precinct 4 Commissioner Drew Brossmann would like to inform the public that starting Monday, Sept. 12, Anders Bottom Road will be closed at the Williams Creek crossing for a bridge replacement. This is a Texas Department of Transportation bridge grant project.

Suspect steals three vehicles before being arrested

Deputies had quite a morning on Tuesday, Aug. 30 as a suspect stole three different vehicles before being arrested, according to Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek. Sheriff Korenek reported that at approximately 6:16 a.m.

Cody Pavlicek (second from left) had the grand champion entry in the Schulenburg Young Farmers Hay Show, held in conjunction with the Fayette County Fair. His coastal bermudagrass sold for $1,300 at auction.

Queen's Contes t winners – (from left) Izela Cerda, Dulce Merlos, Teagan Branch, and Addisan Wagner. Wagner, a junior at Flatonia High School, finished as second runner-up and also won Photogenic and Miss Beauty & Poise. She is the daughter of Ben and Misti Wagner, and was sponsored by the Flatonia Lions Club.

Fair Queen, Jr. Miss, Little Miss/Mr. winners named

The 2022 Fayette County Fair had one of the biggest crowds on opening night, Thursday, Sept. 1 and the highlight was crowning a new Fair Queen, Junior Miss, Little Miss and Little Mister. This year, season ticket sales totaled $105,390.

Top SHS finishers at local XC meet

Makena Kopecky (left) and Kaz McBride (right) head uphill on the far east side of the Sports Complex during last Thursday’s Schulenburg Cross Country Meet. They were the top varsity finishers for the Lady Horns and Shorthorns. The event included some 29 schools and 570 runners.

Limbaughs OK after scary accident

Schulenburg ISD Superintendent Duane Limbaugh and his wife, Jennifer, are recovering this week from injuries they sustained in an accident Saturday morning on Interstate 10 near Columbus. The accompanying photo shows the Limbaugh’s Toyota RAV4 after it was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler.

Willis Adams honored at pep rally

Shorthorn great Willis Adams, who helped Schulenburg High to its first football state title in 1972, returned to town last Friday to give an inspirational speech for the school pep rally. At least that’s what he thought.
